Summer 2019 Mission Trip

During the week of June 16 - 21 LFUCC volunteers volunteered with Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi.

This is the first mission trip that LFUCC has ever taken.
Our group volunteered with another UCC church from Ohio. Together we planned and prepared meals. All participants stayed on Back Bay’s campus the whole week.

LFUCC is thankful for this opportunity to serve our neighbors on the coast. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Susan.

Day 1

Day 1 of our Back Bay Mission Trip is in the books! We all went to the housing rehab today and completed a variety of tasks: flooring, painting, siding, fascia, and cabinetry. Tomorrow we will be in a few different places.

We are enjoying fellowship with our brothers and sisters from First Community Church in Columbus, Ohio. There are 10 individuals from First Community Church and 7 from LFUCC. The facilities and the staff here are fantastic!

Thanks for praying for us and thinking of us, LFUCC family back home. Keep it up.

Day 2

Day 2 of our Back Bay Mission Trip is in the books! We had a great day!

Three of our crew went to Loaves and Fishes, a local feeding ministry, and prepared for and served more than one hundred people breakfast, as well as an additional 52 Meals on Wheels plates. The others of us were back at it on housing rehab.

Our work was interrupted a few times due to rain, but we still managed to get a lot of work done and have a lot of fun. We are sharing meals and stories and laughs with our friends from the Ohio church. We are thankful to be a part of the great work that is taking place at Back Bay Mission.

Day 3

Day 3 of our Back Bay Mission Trip is now over. We had another great day.

Most of us stayed at Back Bay and worked in the ministries that are offered on the campus. One of them is a food pantry. The other is the Micah Day Center, where the poor and/or homeless can come in and get a shower, have their laundry done, make phone calls, work on the computer, pick up a hygiene kit or some other needed article of clothing, and get a cold drink/coffee and a snack. They also can get in the AC for a few hours! We volunteers cleaned the showers after each person and did the laundry. We also had the blessing of interacting with the guests who come in. What amazing ministries and what an impact Back Bay is making in the community!

We are also learning about other programs that Back Bay sponsors, like the Bridges out of Poverty program and the Home as Last program. The list goes on and on. And the thing is, these programs and ministries are taking place with passion and love as well as being carried out with efficiency and effectiveness. We are so thankful to be here and play a part in this work. A couple of our group went back to the housing rehab work today. The house we have been working on should be finished tomorrow. Thanks for thinking of us and praying for us. We have so many stories to tell when we get home.

Day 4

Day 4 of our Back Bay Mission Trip is done.

All of us went to housing rehab today. We worked inside-thankfully. Before we went to housing rehab, we enjoyed hearing from more of the staff of Back Bay sharing about the variety of programs that they offer to people. It's amazing, y'all!

Tomorrow we only work half a day and then head home. We will be in different places again tomorrow. A couple of us will be at housing rehab. The others of us will be at the food pantry, the Micah Day Center, and Loaves and Fishes feeding ministry. We are tired and ready to sleep in our own beds and take showers in our own showers, though the facilities here are very nice. Each of us has been so blessed to be a part of this awesome ministry this week. We can't wait to tell you all about our trip, the work we did, and the people we have met.

Day 5

We are all home from our Back Bay Mission Trip, after a half day today.

Some of us were at the Micah Day Center, one at Loaves and Fishes and one at the housing rehab. We gave lots of goodbye hugs to our Ohio friends. We enjoyed them so much - they were so friendly and fun. Again, so thankful for the opportunity to have made this trip. We hope that some others of you will be able to go with next time!

Stay tuned for stories and details to come. Thanks, LFUCC family and friends, for thinking of us and praying for us.
